Street Style: NYFW Edition
The Big Apple brings together more people than likely any other place in the United States. The reality of this is an electrifying explosion of culture, perspectives and incredible people-watching. We know it’s hard to keep up with fashion all over the world and find inspiration for what modern fashion actually looks like.
While covering runway shows in New York City this September, The Curio Cabinet explored the streets of Manhattan, Lower East Side and Brooklyn in search of fashion-forward pedestrians. Lucky for us they were easy to spot!
Amongst the millions of people walking the NYC streets, we put together a few of our favorite looks to share.
All Things Oversized
Whether it is baggy pants, clunky shoes or a practical bag, all things oversized are screaming fashion on the NYC streets. With an emphasis on practicality, layering makes a lot of sense for the wide spectrum of East Coast weather. Ripped jeans add extra texture, and a sneak peek at what’s underneath any outfit, high fashion or casual.
Maximalist Accessorizing
Heavy layering also leans into the trend of maximalist accessorizing that so many creatives use to showcase their individuality. Leather is a classy yet practical choice this time of year that also brings an edge to any outfit. Heavy necklaces and earrings accentuate the jaw and neckline with class and add a touch of severity to the look.
Mix and Match
Despite the pouring rain that caught the crowds by surprise outside of high-end shows, the fashion continued. Snatched waistlines and mixed textiles and textures were on display at all hours. What we appreciate most about dressing for the big city is that people are not afraid of color and to mix and match them boldly.
How you dress and step out for the day speaks volumes about who you are and what message you have for the world without saying a word. New Yorkers have a knack for expression and being intentional about what they want to say through so many different mediums including their style choices.
Despite a lack of body diversity within runway shows the NYC street fashion was proof that fashion is for all body types.
We owe a huge thank you to all the beautiful people who were willing to chat with us and pose in the bustle of their daily lives. Share with a friend if you see them. We are more than happy to share photos over email or social- just reach out!
