Color of Fashion is Cultivating a Community

In an intimate mini-show on Friday night at the Clayton Members Club, Color of Fashion kicked off the week that we’ve been waiting for all year. With the theme Luxury Resort Wear, guests were given a taste of what Color of Fashion has in store for their shows this season.

Color of Fashion is a nonprofit organization based in Denver striving to uplift the community by bridging the gap between diversity and high fashion. As a Black and female-owned organization, Color of Fashion is paving the way for the Denver fashion scene to embrace inclusivity and togetherness.

“You’re in support of diversity, you’re in support of togetherness. We wouldn’t be here without you,” said Alicia Myers, Co-Founder of Color of Fashion. Alongside fellow founder Samantha Joseph, Alicia welcomed guests to the mini-show that began with a few words from Matthew Morris, owner of Matthew Morris Salon & Skincare and co-host of the Color of Fashion runway shows this season.

The mini-show promoted a casual environment for guests to mingle and feel a part of the fashion community.

FM

Local brand FM was created in 2006, providing apparel, jewelry, apothecary and records to Denver’s South Broadway neighborhood and beyond.

The collection was a refreshing and casual representation of fashionable menswear. Models rocked cuffed jeans and printed button-ups with subtle details like embroidery and more.

FM brought what we like to call “the boyfriend edit” to the evening. Do you love your boyfriend but god, does he just dress badly? This collection could change that!

OULA

The show transitioned to showcase a collection from OULA, founded by Erika Dalya Massaquoi. The brand’s pillars include sustainability and both trans-seasonal and culturally inclusive fashion.

OULA pieces are stylish and timeless yet comfortable and wearable. The pieces, made from Ankara African Wax Fabric, are fit for the modern woman who yearns to look and feel her best.

Models showcased bold necklines and stunning patterns with a collection that truly embodied luxury resort wear and served as an ode to summer. Myers and Joseph even modeled looks themselves, and guests were immersed in the beauty and versatility of OULA’s brand and the presence it establishes.

The Denver fashion community is small, so runway shows serve as an opportunity for those passionate about fashion to feel a part of it. This show immersed the guests in the vision behind Color of Fashion with the opportunity for new and familiar faces to celebrate diverse fashion.

It’s long overdue that community is prioritized in the Denver fashion industry. Rather than focusing on financial gain or personal exposure, the Color of Fashion ladies are bringing events and programming meant to establish connections amongst those passionate about fashion.

Coming Up

“One of the longest runways you’ve ever seen in CO, we’re bringing it,” Myers teased for the upcoming shows.

Color of Fashion and Matthew Morris Salon and Skincare will debut their fall shows on Friday, September 22 at Elitch Gardens and Saturday, September 23 at Union Station. Visit their website for more information and tickets.
