We Tried It: Sacred Society is an Oasis of Holistic Healing in Denver’s Urban Landscape

The Curio Cabinet team is constantly opening themselves and their community up to new narratives and experiences. We Tried It is an ongoing series of testing and vetting products, events and destinations by local businesses.

After months of anticipation and permitting delays, I finally stepped through the doors of Sacred Society on a Sunday afternoon. Just off 38th Avenue in Denver, the space offered a palpable shift from the city’s energy — like stepping into another dimension where time moves more deliberately.

Immediately, a team member greeted me with a warm smile. Though she likely does this to everyone, in this space, it felt genuine. Guided through the thoughtfully designed sanctuary, I saw firsthand how each space flowed seamlessly into the next, distinct yet connected. My host gestured toward the zen garden, emphasizing that this was more than just a wellness center — it was a space where healing happened on one’s own terms and at their own pace.

Then came the experience I’d been most curious about: vibroacoustic therapy. Lying on a specialized therapy bed, I was enveloped in multidimensional sound, masterfully engineered in Dolby Atmos. As gentle sound waves and vibrations moved through my body, the tension I hadn’t even realized I was carrying began to dissolve. The carefully calibrated frequencies seemed to locate stress points and work them loose with invisible hands. Thirty minutes later, I emerged feeling both deeply relaxed and surprisingly alert – like a mental fog had been lifted.

The journey continued in Sacred Society’s café, where even the smallest details fostered mindfulness. A unique touch caught my attention: each table had a card that could be flipped to signal “open to mindful connections” or “quiet time preferred,” reminiscent of how yoga instructors offer hands-on assists. This simple innovation created a space that honored both connection and solitude without awkwardness.

Over a salad of local produce and a handcrafted golden turmeric latte designed for cognitive support post-therapy, I observed the café’s gentle rhythm. Visitors can engage in animated conversations over board games or sit in peaceful silence, journaling, as I chose to do. Here, the café wasn’t just an afterthought — it was an integral part of the healing experience.

Sacred Society is the brainchild of Barbie Beltran and Jose Guerrero, visionaries who brought their diverse expertise to this holistic endeavor. Guerrero, formerly the executive chef at ViewHouse Eatery, curates a menu where every offering is crafted with intention, nourishing both body and spirit.

Beltran’s background spans commercial real estate, angel investing, fashion design, music and beauty — a unique constellation of experiences that shaped her vision for this space. But beyond her professional achievements, it was her personal struggles with mental health that infused Sacred Society with its soul. As a mother of four who discovered that “true transformation lies within,” Beltran has created a sanctuary that embraces the journey toward wholeness in all its complexity.

“Building Sacred Society was deeply personal, but it wasn’t without its challenges,” says Beltran. “From navigating zoning and construction delays to redefining an entirely new category of wellness that blends hospitality, retail, food and beverage and mental health — it’s been a journey filled with pivots. One of the greatest challenges was staying grounded in the mission while managing the opinions and expectations of others. As a team we’ve had to overcome doubt and fear, and really lean into trust and faith in the flow of the universe and its divine timing. Constantly reconnecting to why we started this in the first place: to make wellness more approachable, inclusive and impactful for everyone.”

What sets Sacred Society apart is its range of unique wellness modalities. In addition to vibroacoustic therapy, users can explore immersive sensory virtual reality pods that transport them to meditative landscapes, guided by technology that responds to the body’s cues. The peaceful Zen garden hosts sound sessions blending ancient practices with contemporary sonic healing techniques. Perhaps most intriguing is their photobiomodulation therapy capsule — reportedly the most powerful on the market — using specific wavelengths of light to energize cells from within in a cool, space-themed room.

“The offerings at Sacred Society were curated with deep purpose,” Beltran explains. “I wanted to meet people exactly where they are — whether they’re just starting their wellness journey or are already immersed in it. We carefully selected modalities that stimulate all the senses and cater to different paths of healing. Some people connect through sound, others through touch, movement or stillness.”

The Sacred Society Café really is a destination in itself, featuring specialty coffees, teas, smoothies and elixirs crafted with wellness in mind. True to their community-focused ethos, the café showcases grab-and-go items from local partners like Blue Hummingbird Foods and Acai Alley. While the commissary kitchen is still in progress, the upcoming season also promises handmade nut milks and protein bowls.

“People gather here to unwind, to connect after a session or to simply enjoy a moment of stillness,” Beltran says. “It reinforces the idea that wellness isn’t something that happens in isolation — it’s something we can share and integrate into everyday life.”

As the afternoon light shifted, I reluctantly prepared to leave. Near the zen garden, I envisioned a small group gathering for an upcoming sound journey with quiet anticipation. I made a mental note to return for this experience next time.

Sacred Society is just getting started, with several exciting initiatives in development. Upcoming programs include themed sound journeys, children’s sensory workshops, group coaching circles and immersive events that blend art and wellness.

On the tech front, the team is expanding its vibroacoustic and sensory offerings and deepening the connection between its music label, Sacred Society Music Group, and in-person experiences. Looking ahead, Sacred Society hopes to expand to other cities and launch an e-commerce platform to bring its boutique offerings to a broader audience.
